My make-shift recording device |
To record the videos without a video camera or tripod I had to improvise. I attached my phone to an adjustable lamp and used the camera on my phone to record the videos. This created a steady base for the phone to record from. It also meant that I could change the height of the lamp/camera and use both of my hands in the video.

Brian Chippendale "NINJA"
One of my tutors suggested that I look through this comic book. The cover of this comic is hand printed by Brian Chippendale himself, and the inside is printed black and white. The pictures above are some pages that I chose to look at specifically.

Another illustration of his on a t-shirt that I own |
Keaton Henson has influenced me to discover a style that suits me. His style is unlike most others that I have seen; his use of freakishly long arms and bizarre mouths makes his work unique and inspiring. Studying his work has brought back memories of the illustrations I did when I was young of monsters, beasts and aliens alike.

SKINNER
I bought this book when I went to Brighton to give me some ideas on how to portray my imagery of the Four Horsemen.

Grindesign
Daniel Stolpe, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, 1995 |
Viktor Vasnetsov, The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, 1887 |
Unknown Artist, Source |
Recently I have been researching different illustrations of the four horsemen. One illustrator that I have been inspired by, who goes by the name of Grindesign, created an illustration of the four horsemen (pictured above). Although I like this illustration, most of the images of the the four horsemen that I have discovered are very similar (they all show the four men on the same four horses). Because of this I have decided to portray the four horsemen as individuals in a portrait style without the horses.
Project Proposal
For this project I will be looking at the subject matter 'the end of the world'. One idea that interests me in particular is the story of The Four Horseman
of the Apocalypse. I have always been inspired by horror (in particular gore and skulls) and decided to look into this further. Some of the things that have inspired me to look further into this subject include things that I have grown up with, such as movies, games and television shows. The films that have inspired me to look more into this topic include Predator, Terminator, Alien and The Thing.
As I was growing up my parents played a lot of music that has influenced my current music taste and lifestyle, including bands like Guns n Roses, AC/DC and Metallica. This has prompted me to listen to music such as Suicide Silence, The Black Dahlia Murder and The Faceless. For this project I have taken the things that have inspired me through the years and focused them into the subject of 'the end of the world'.
For this project I will create a set of images on the subject of The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and bring them into the twenty-first century. I will do this by looking at the illustrators and music that has influenced me throughout my life; I will use this knowledge and inspiration to discover, develop and utilise a unique style to create and showcase my final images.
